Ambrosia Maple W/ Fractal Burning

Check out our YouTube channel for videos on how this build went.

We received this beautiful Ambrosia Maple love edslab from a great client of ours. The goal here was to keep the lightness of maples natural color. Where oil based and epoxy will turn a bright maple into a dark maple, here as you can see, we were able to keep this slabs natural bright color.

The trick? Turns out, water based polyurethane is a treat!

We applied 3 coats of water-based polyurethane over the course of a week, sanded each coat to a 220 grit smooth and after 5 days of curing, we started our epoxy pours and and voila! The water based poly keeps the maples natural brightness while the epoxy add a 1/4” layer of durable protection that’ll last until the next ice age!

We recorded this entire build, especially the fractal burn marks, we will be adding them to YouTube shortly. Hope you all enjoy!
